Socrates on Slideshare!

An updated presentation of the Apology project is available on slideshare for you to enjoy, share and promote around the world. We are offering a cultural ‘product’ that has proven to fascinate international audiences and spread positive messages of Hellenism wherever it has been presented. Help us bring Socrates to new audiences and maximise the impact of this unique project around the world.

Our success story

EllinikoTheatro has been selected amongst the four ‘success stories’ in the field of Culture by RepowerGreece. ”By underlining and exploring result-oriented perceptions, this initiative aims to showcase a side of Greece that will confront misperceptions within the international community while motivating the Greek morale. Ukraine Tour

After the triumph in Bulgaria and Mexico, Elliniko Theatro sets sail for the Ukraine, for a series of performances of ‘The Apology of Socrates’ with Russian surtitles in Kiev, Odessa, Mariupol and Lviv. With the Leventis Foundation as the main sponsor and under the aegis of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this tour includes partnerships with the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Odessa, the Greek Embassy in Kiev as well as Astra, Universal and Piraeus Banks. Bulgaria tour

In October 2011, Elliniko Theatro is presenting ‘The Apology of Socrates’ in educational and cultural centres of Bulgaria, in English or Greek, with innovative Bulgarian surtitles. The tour is sponsored by the Leventis Foundation, supported by the Greek Consulate of Plovdiv and includes venues in Sofia, Plovdiv, Bourgas and Sozopol. Elliniko Theatro in Luxembourg!

After the triumph in Belgium, Elliniko Theatro travelled to Luxembourg, to present the Apology of Socrates to 200 students at the European School of Luxembourg on May 18th. On May 20th, the Hellenic Community of Luxembourg hosted Cavafy: The Poet of the City in Greek with English surtitles, which was reviewed as ”a fascinating reading performance” by leading newspaper La Voix du Luxembourg.  On May 25th The Apology of Socrates was presented  at a transatlantic conference hosted by the University of Luxembourg, entitled ‘Living Culture in the University‘, in front of 200 participants from the EU and the USA.

Socrates comes to life in Brussels!

After over 200 performances around the world, Plato’s diachronic classic comes to life in the capital of Europe, at a time when he is especially relevant and needed. Last Tuesday the wise man of Athens fascinated 250 international students at ISB/St John Schools (see review here). Coming up: One perfomance in Greek and one in English, both with French surtitles, at the prestigious Comedie Volter Theatre, on May 13th and May 14th 2011. For further info click here

Touching all-day reading of the Iliad at the Getty Museum

The all day audience-participation reading at the Getty Villa, Malibu (USA) was a success: 160 Readers of Homer, an exhibition of ancient artifacts related to the Homeric Epics, ancient Greek melodies and tastes created an impressive setting in an internationally renowned cultural centre. Public reading of the Iliad at the Getty Museum, L.A on April 30th!

Εlliniko Theatro and The Readers of Homer warmly invite you to a public reading of Homer’s Iliad, at the J.Paul Getty Museum – Getty Villa, Malibu, on April 30th 2011, from 10am until 7pm. Discover the Getty Stories of the Trojan War galleries, enjoy tastes reminiscent of Homer’s time and hear the great Greek epic as interpreted by 160 readers of all ages and backgrounds. Final goodbye to Τheoni

Elliniko Theatro mourns the passing of Apology of Socrates’ designer, colleague and friend Theoni Vahliotes  Aldredge, Oscar and Tony winner, celebrated costume designer of theatre, opera, film and television.
