Nightlong marathon Reading of the Odyssey at the Athens Concert Hall Garden

On the eve of September 23th, in the context of our ‘Theatre of Peace’ cycle of projects and in collaboration with the international literary organization ‘Readers of Homer’, we will present a nightlong reading/celebration of Homer’s Odyssey in the summer gardens of Athens Concert Hall.

The journey of this partnership began 15 years ago and has enjoyed great success globally, at the London Olympics, the European Parliament in Brussels, the Library of Alexandria, the Getty Villa Museum in Malibu, and also in Montevideo, New York, Troy, Kos, Chios and dozens more.

The Athens Concert Hall stage will be shared by more than 200 readers of all ages and nationalities, who will read, sing and perform in their own language one of the most important works of world literature to the Athenian audience and Greece’s foreign visitors. Throughout the reading the text will be projected in English and Greek, accompanied by relevant images and music interludes by local and international ensembles. The 10-hour reading will be live-streamed globally.

The readers’ common goal is to perform uninterrupted, in one’s own individual manner, the Odyssey until dawn, reviving the ancient oral tradition of poetry, myth and storytelling, thus honoring this masterpiece of the world’s cultural heritage.

Those interested in attending or reading will be able to register on a specially configured online platform where they can select their preferred time slot.

The event is dedicated to the “odyssey” of refugees hosted currently in Greece and elsewhere.
