Odyssey Triumphant

I was particularly heartened to take part in a social experiment that engaged everyone in something so elemental. We were students, actors, ambassadors, politicians, refugees, children, octogenarians, Greeks and foreigners alike – all reading the Odyssey in different tongues. The reading was made all the more poignant and relatable when you consider that the Odyssey is the tale of an exiled hero’s homecoming after traversing different countries along the way: a reminder of the perilous journeys so many refugees feel compelled to take every day.”

It was indeed a life altering event for all of us—producers, participants and audience.* In association with Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis) and in collaboration with the International Readers of Homer, we fashioned a magical night of epic poetry sung by Athenians and the people of the world, with haunting music, and to an enthralled audience. Invitations to mount similar participatory celebrations are pouring in. We are ever so grateful to our generous sponsors and to all of you who with your support have made this project and all our work possible. We are also deeply appreciative to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees for placing Odyssey 2017 under its aegis.
