The ILIAD @ Bard College
The Readers of Homer warmly invite you to take part in the marathon reading of THE ILIAD which will take place on May 2nd starting at 1pm and going through the night into May 3rd.Registration office for readers will open on May 2nd at 12 pm. noon at the old gym located at Bard College campus Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
WE SUGGEST the reader’s arrive with ample time to go through registration in order that may be prepared to read at their selected time.
The words of the poet Homer were originally spoken aloud to rapt audiences who sat spellbound by tales of kings and heroes, battles and sorrow. Relive the experience of this oral tradition by participating in a 23 hours marathon reading of THE ILIAD.
350 readers of all ages and backgrounds including Professors, Students, Community members, Artists, Journalists and children will gather to read and sing Homer’s great epic, one after the other, in the languages of the world. The event will be enhanced with on-stage projection of the text in English and related images, music interludes and a Homeric dinner.
Everyone is invited to participate in this unique opportunity to bring alive the thrilling tale of the Trojan War and to enjoy the experience of reading poetry aloud.
Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no special training required. Space is available for non-readers too.
HOW TO REGISTER
In order to be part of this unique cultural endeavor, please follow the instructions below:
– Choose your time slot.
– Complete the registration form
– Print your e-ticket and bring it with you at the day of the event.
Detailed instructions and specific passages of the Iliad will be sent to all readers by April 25th.
